Hello and welcome back to the Kapil Gupta Career Pod Show, the show where your career gets clarity, direction and a spark of inspiration. I'm your host, Kapil Gupta, and today we are diving into one of the most fascinating, powerful, and fast growing careers of the 21st century. Political analyst. And now, before you imagine a person shouting on TV debates at 9 pm, let me tell you that's not the job. A real political analyst is someone who studies political trends, public policies, elections, governments, global affairs, and voter behavior to help people understand what is happening behind the scenes. Now this career is perfect for students who love discussing current affairs, understanding world events, decoding political strategies and analyzing public opinion. And if you're someone who opens YouTube every morning to watch news breakdowns or someone who debates politics at the dinner table, you might already be a political analyst in the making. So let's explore this exciting world. The opportunities, the skills, the salaries, and everything you need to build a strong career. Powerful careers in a life they love. Now this isn't just about studying abroad, it's about building clarity, confidence, and character. I do it with coaching, mindset work, and the game-changing power of graphotherapy because students deserve more than just guidance. They deserve transformation. So let's dive in. See, the field of political analysis is growing rapidly both in India and across the world. In India, the scope is expanding due to increasing youth involvement in politics, growth of digital news platforms, rising demand for election data and political strategy, and more. PR agencies hiring analysts for political clients, think tanks and NGOs working on public policy, government departments needing policy researchers. And you can work with news channels, research firms, election campaign teams, think tanks like ORF, CPR, public policy organizations, government ministries, political consultancies like IPAC, Jarvis, ABM. And when we talk about abroad, opportunities are even broader. International think tanks, global media organizations, government policy units, intelligence agencies, then public diplomacy organizations, research institutions, political risk consultancies, they are in huge demand. And countries like the United States, UK, Canada, Germany, Singapore, and Australia hire expert political analysts for policy research, global security studies, and international relations work. Now this field is not only intellectually stimulating, it is highly respected, well paid and globally in demand. Now Political Analyst Day is filled with reading, researching, and interpreting political developments. But it's definitely not boring. It's dynamic, fast-paced, and full of real world impact. And here's what they do in simple terms. They study political events, elections and policies. They interpret government decisions and their impact. Then track voter behavior and public opinion and analyze speeches, manifestos and political strategies. They even break down complex issues into simple explanations. Then they write research reports and policy briefs, even predict future political trends and give expert commentary for media, work with political campaign teams, and even conduct surveys, interviews, and field research. Now you may also work behind the scenes helping leaders prepare speeches, campaign strategies, or policy drafts. Many political analysts work from offices, but a lot of field visits, data collection, and survey work is also part of the job. So this career puts you at the heart of social change. Now when we talk about the key skills needed to become a good political analyst, they are strong interest in politics and current affairs. That's the obvious choice. Then analytical thinking, excellent communication skills, researchability, understanding of data and statistics, so very important, then good writing and presentation skills, ability to stay neutral and factual, and many a times it becomes really very difficult, then critical thinking and strong reading habit, and of course, observation skills. You can definitely start after class 12 with subjects like political science, history, sociology, and economics. And the ideal degrees for this career include BA in political science or public administration or international relations or journalism and mass communication or even sociology and public policy electives. And after graduation, students usually do their masters in political science or public policy, international relations, global affairs, and journalism. And PhD gives an even stronger edge. Now talking about the best universities in India to become a political analyst, Dell University and JNU tops the list. Then Ashoka University, Jamia Mila, Christ University, Presidency University, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, they are not far behind. Even Sensevious College, based both in Mumbai and Kolkata, then Simbausa School of Liberal Arts, then OP Jindal Global University, can be a good choice as well. And when we talk about the best universities abroad for political analysis and public policy, the big names are Harvard University, London School of Economics, Oxford University, Cambridge University. Everybody dreams of studying here. Then Cambridge, Georgetown, Sciences Po based in France, then New York University, University of Toronto, once again are not far behind. They are like the hot cakes. And then the National University of Singapore and University of Melbourne are also liked by students. Now these universities produce some of the world's top political thinkers and analysts. And now let's get to the most interesting part: the salary. If we talk about India, from freshers to like political strategy consultants, it can begin for freshers, it can be like 4 lakh to 7 lakhs per year, but for senior analysts, it can be 20 lakh to 35 lakhs per year. But for those who become political strategy consultants, of course, that's because of their experience, vast experience in this field, it can be somewhere from 30 lakhs to 1 crore plus annually. And election seasons increase earning opportunities significantly. And talking about abroad, let's talk about US, it can be like $60,000 to $120,000 per year. UK $35,000 to $70,000 per year. In even in Singapore, it's $50,000 to $90,000 per year. So salaries depend on sectors also. Government, private, media, NGO, political analysts doing TV panel work or consulting earn much more. See the world needs smart, honest, and analytical minds who can decode politics and guide society with clarity. If you love current affairs, enjoy analyzing situations and want to influence public decisions, then this career is a powerful and meaningful path. So this field rewards curiosity, consistency, and courage. So if you feel inspired today, start following political news, read one article a day, join debate clubs, and take political science seriously.
