Hello my dear listeners and welcome to the Kapil Gupta Career Pod Show, the show that helps students, professionals, and dreamers like you find clarity, confidence, and direction in their career journey. And today we are diving into a topic that can literally transform your life. Limiting beliefs. Now let's be honest, how many times have you said to yourself, I can't do this? I'm not confident enough. I'm not from a big city. I don't have the right connections. I'm just average. And if you have ever thought this way, then today's episode is just for you. Because here's the truth. Your biggest obstacle isn't your background, your marks, or your degree. It's your belief system. In fact, a study by Stanford University found that students who developed a growth mindset, believing that abilities can be developed, performed 30% better than those with a fixed mindset. And that's how powerful your thoughts can be. So in today's episode, we'll explore how limiting beliefs are formed, how they silently shape your choices, and most importantly, how to break free from them and build an unstoppable mindset for success. So grab your earphones, take a deep breath, and let's begin this powerful journey of self-discovery and freedom. Hello all, I'm Kapil Gupta, career coach, life mentor, and founder of Study Abroad Academy. I'm on a mission to help hundred thousand high school students break free from confusion, fear, and self-doubt and step into global classrooms, powerful careers in a life they love. And this isn't just about studying abroad, it's about building clarity, confidence, and character. I do it with coaching, mindset work, and the game-changing power of graphotherapy because students deserve more than just guidance. They deserve transformation. So let's start simple. What exactly are limiting beliefs? A limiting belief is any thought or assumption that holds you back from reaching your true potential. It's that small voice in your head that says, You can't do it. For Indian students, these often sound like I'm not good at English. Oh, only toppers get success. Or you must become a doctor or an engineer to make your parents proud. Or creative careers are risky. Sounds familiar? Now these beliefs are not facts. They are stories you've been told or stories you have repeated to yourself for so long that they have started to feel like the truth. But where do they come from? Most of them are borrowed. We inherit them from family expectations, societal norms, or peer comparisons. You might have grown up hearing Sharmaji san clear dayati, why can't you? Or Aats me koi future nihota and slowly these external opinions become your inner voice. And the worst part, these beliefs become invisible barriers. They stop you from applying for that dream internship, from speaking up in class, from taking risks that could change your life. As Henry Ford once said, whether you think you can or you think you can't, you are right. The first step is awareness. Realize that most of your fears are learned and what's learned can be unlearned. So now that we've understood what limiting beliefs are, let's talk about how your mindset shapes your career. Now there are two types of mindset: fixed and growth. A fixed mindset says I'm either good at it or I'm not. A growth mindset says I can learn whatever I set my mind to. And this one small shift can change your entire destiny. Take an example from India, Dr. A. P. G. Abdul Kala. He came from a humble background in Rameshwaram. He wasn't born into privilege, didn't go to fancy schools, but he carried one belief. I can learn, I can grow, and I can serve. Now that belief made him the people's president and one of the most respected scientists in the world. Or consider Riteshagarwal, the founder of Oyo Rooms. He wasn't a top ranker, he didn't have an Ivy League degree, but he had a learning mindset. He observed, experimented, failed, and tried again. And that's what a growth mindset looks like. In fact, a Harvard Business Review report found that people with growth mindset are 47% more likely to feel fulfilled in their careers. So the question is: are you letting your mindset limit your future or are you using it to expand your possibilities? The real magic happens when you replace I can't with I haven't learned it yet. So now let's talk about something every Indian student can relate to: the obsession with marks, ranks, and degrees. We've been programmed to believe that your percentage defines your potential, that your rank defines your worth, that your college name decides your career. But here's a brutal truth the world doesn't care about your marks, it cares about your skills. So let me share some quick facts. According to a report by LinkedIn India, 85% of recruiters today prioritize skills over degrees. Another World Economic Forum study says 50% of current job roles will change by 2030, meaning adaptability is more important than memorizing textbooks. Still, most students in India spend years chasing grades instead of developing creative problem-solving communication or digital skills. Take the example of Varun Maya, founder of Avalon Labs. He dropped out of engineering, built one of India's leading ed tech startups, or Bhunbaum, who turned his passion for comedy and storytelling into a full-fledged career. Now none of them followed the traditional path. They broke free from the myth that there's only one formula for success. The key takeaways here is this your marks are not your destiny, your curiosity, creativity, and consistency are. So when you stop measuring yourself by someone else's co card, you start designing your own success story. Alright, let's get practical. How can you actually break free from limiting beliefs? Here are a few techniques that really work. Tested by psychologists, coaches, and even top achievers. First, awareness journaling. Every morning, write down one negative belief you've caught yourself saying, like I'm not confident enough. Then challenge it and write, I'm learning to become more confident every day. Science backs this up. According to Neuroscience Today, repeating new beliefs rewires your brain through a process called neuroplasticity. That means you can literally train your brain to think differently. Second, daily affirmations. Stand in front of the mirror and say, I am enough. I learn fast. I deserve success. It might feel silly at first, but your brain starts believing what it hears often. Third, change your environment. If you're surrounded by negativity, you'll start believing that's the norm. Find people who lift you up, mentors, online communities, or even podcasts that inspire you. Fourth, take small, consistent actions. The best way to defeat fear is through movement. So if you fear public speaking, start with one minute in front of a camera. Then speak to two friends, then join a club. And remember, every time you step beyond your comfort zone, your confidence grows. As Tony Robinson says, belief is a choice. And the moment you choose a new belief, your entire life begins to change. So now that we have spoken about how to break limiting beliefs, let's end with something bigger, redefining success. In India, success often comes with labels, IIT, IIM, MBBS, package in crores, foreign job. But tell me honestly, is that your definition or society's definition? Real success isn't about chasing someone else's dream. It's about waking up every morning excited about what you're doing. It's about peace of mind, good health, and meaningful contribution. A Deloitte India survey revealed that over 80% of Indian professionals feel unsatisfied with their jobs, not because of low pay, but because they don't feel connected to their purpose. So maybe the real success is not about having more, but about being more. It's about being curious, kind, self-aware, and fulfilled. So whether you become a doctor, a designer, or a digital marketer, what truly matters is that you love what you do and grow as a person while doing it. Don't be afraid to take unconventional paths. The world today rewards creativity and courage more than conformity. So stop comparing your chapter 1 with someone else's chapter 20. Your journey is unique and your pace is perfect. So, my dear listeners, let's quickly recap today's conversation. Limiting beliefs are invisible chains. They keep you small when you're meant to shine. But the good news, you can break them. So when you shift from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset, you change your entire story. When you stop chasing marks and start chasing mastery, you change your direction. And when you define success on your own terms, you truly begin to live. Remember, your beliefs build your future. Don't let anyone else program for you. Take one belief today that has held you back and rewrite it. If you've been saying I'm confident, change it to I'm becoming confident. If you've been saying I'm not smart enough, say I'm learning every day. Because transformation doesn't start with a degree or a job offer. It starts with one decision. The decision to believe in yourself again. So before you go, here's my challenge for you this week. Take a notebook, write down three limiting beliefs you have carried for years. Then for each one, write the opposite empowering belief and read it aloud every morning for the next seven days. Watch how your thoughts, your energy, and your confidence begin to shift. And if this episode helped you, share it with one friend who needs to hear it. Subscribe to the Kapal Gupta Kareer Pod Show for weekly inspiration on careers, mindset, and personal growth. And don't forget, the only limits that exist are the ones you believe in. Break them and you'll find the freedom to become the person you're always meant to be.
