Hello my dear listeners and welcome to the Kapal Gupta Career Pod Show. And I'm your host, Kapal Gupta, and I'm here to help you navigate the tricky parts of your academic and career journey. So today we are diving into a topic that's been the nightmare of every student at some point managing stress during your board exams. Let's admit it, board exams feel like a boss level in a video game. Your hands are sweating, the clock is ticking, and the stakes feel sky high. But here's the good news just like every game, this too comes with cheat codes and strategies. So before we get started, let me ask you something. Did you know that the legendary APG Abdul Kalam once said, excellence is a continuous process and not an accident. Well, managing stress is part of that process, and I'm here to help you excel. So grab a cup of chai, settle in, and let's figure out how to keep calm and conquer those exams like a pro. So, hello all. I'm Kapil Gupta, founder of Study Abroad Academy. I'm on a mission to coach and mentor 100,000 high school students and help them realize the dream of studying in the best universities of the world and build happy and successful careers for themselves. So now, why stress happens during exams? So before we talk solutions, let's understand the problem. So why do exams stress us out? So pressure from expectations. Parents, teachers, friends, and sometimes even that nosy neighbor. Everyone has high expectations and it can feel overwhelming. Fear of failure, the idea of not performing well can be terrifying. And then the unrealistic goals. Setting goals that are too high can make you feel like you're climbing Mount Everest without training. Then lack of preparation. So procrastination or last minute cramming often leads to panic. Then, most importantly, comparison with others. Let's be honest. We have all peeked at a friend's preparation and thought, am I even ready? Stress is natural, but letting it control you isn't. So how do you turn the tide? So here are tips to manage stress during your board exams. One, plan your preparation. As Benjamin Franklin said, by failing to prepare, you're preparing to fail. A solid study plan is your best stress buster. So break your syllabus into manageable chunks. Allocate specific time slots for each subject and include breaks to recharge your mind. For example, use the Pomodoro technique. And I've actually done a podcast separately on Pomodoro technique. So browse the channel, I'm sure you'll find the episode. So study for 25 minutes, then take a 5 minute break. After 4 cycles, take a longer break of 15 to 30 minutes. Then practice mindfulness and relaxation techniques. Staying calm is an art, but it's one you can master. Meditation, spend 10 minutes daily focusing on your breath. Yoga, simple stretches like child's pose or downward dog can relax your body and mind. In deep breathing, try the 4-7-8 technique. That is, inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 7, and exhale for 8. So even cricket legend Virat Koli emphasizes the importance of mental clarity through mindfulness practices. Number three, eat, sleep, and stay active. Your brain is like a car engine. It needs fuel, rest, and maintenance to function. So healthy diet. It includes brain boosting foods like almond, spinach, and bananas. Avoid junk food and excessive caffeine. Then adequate sleep. Aim for seven to eight hours of sleep every night. Late night cramming only makes things worse. Exercise, yeah, very, very important and really needed. Even a 20 minute walk can boost your mood and energy. Then number four, avoid procrastination. Remember that later is the thief of time. Start with the easiest topics to build confidence. Use a to-do list to track your daily progress. Reward yourself after completing tasks. It could be as simple as watching a short YouTube video or having your favorite snack. And number five, manage exam time panic. On the exam day, stress can hit hard. Here's how to stay composed. Reach the exam center early to avoid last-minute chaos. Then practice positive affirmations like I've prepared well and I'll do my best. Read the question paper thoroughly before diving in. And let's say how parents can help. So parents play a huge role in managing exam stress. And here's what they can do. Avoid comparing your child with others. Very, very important, and many parents do that. Provide a stress-free environment at home. Actually, the stress is visible on parents' face. So I must say, parents should relax so that the child can relax. Offer encouragement and emotional support. Celebrate small achievements during preparation. Remember, Paul Sachantendolka's father once told him, chase your dreams, but don't let success go to your head and failure to your heart. So here the role of technology also plays a very, very important role. So Gen Z, this one's for you. Use technology wisely. Online resources, platforms like Khan Academy, BuyJues, and UNACADME offer free and paid courses. Then flashcard apps, tools like Quizlet can help you revise quickly. Then study planners, apps like My Homework and ToDate help organize your schedule. But remember, avoid distractions like social media during study hours. Keep your phone on do not disturb mode if needed. Then you must practice some stress relief activities. That is taking breaks doesn't mean wasting time. Here are some productive ways to relax. Listen to music, classical or instrumental can enhance focus. Pursue a hobby, whether it's painting, cooking, or gardening, a hobby can be a great stress reliever. Then connect with friends. Share your feeling with trusted friends. A simple conversation can work wonders. Your mindset matters more than you think. And that brings up the power of positivity. Stay optimistic and remember these wise words by Nelson Mandela. It always seems impossible until it's done. So visualize yourself succeeding and don't let minor setbacks discourage you. To sum it up, stress during board exams is normal, but it's not undefeatable. With proper planning, a positive mindset, and the right support system, you can tackle it like a champ. Always remember, board exams are just one chapter in the book of life, not the whole story. So give it your best shot, but don't forget to take care of yourself in the process. And now here's my challenge for you. Take a deep breath, grab your books, and start your next study session with renewed energy and confidence.
