Hi, confused about your career? Let's talk. So, hello my dear listeners and welcome to the Kapil Gupta Career Pod Show. And if you're sitting there scrolling on your phone, confused about your career choices, stressed about your future, or just wondering, what am I even doing with my life? Trust me, you are not alone. Most of us at some point have felt lost while choosing a career path. It's like standing in front of a giant buffet table where every dish looks appealing, but you are unsure which one will actually satisfy your hunger. So that's where career counseling comes in. It's like having a food guide who helps you pick the tastiest and healthiest dish based on your test buds. Intrigued? Well, let's dig deeper. In this episode, we'll explore why career counseling is the secret source to success. And by the end, you'll understand how career counseling can help you unlock your true potential and build a life you're proud of. Sounds exciting? Right? Stick it out. I'm on a mission to coach and mentor 100,000 high school students and help them realize their dream of studying in the best universities of the world and build happy and successful careers for themselves. So what is career counseling? And why should you care? So career counseling is not just a fancy term, it's a structured way of helping people like you make informed decisions about your career. It involves understanding your skills, interests, and values and then matching them to the right career options. Think of it as the Google Maps for your career. You enter your current location and it shows you multiple routes to your destination. And here's the thing in India, we often get career advice from family or friends who mean well but may not know what's best for us. So career counseling bridges that gap by providing expert guidance. It helps you identify a path that's still a made for you. And trust me, this matters more than you think. And if I'd say, why do you even need career counseling? So okay, let's get real. Have you ever thought, should I choose science, commerce, or arts after class 10th? Or which college will help me build the career I want? Or talking about more? Is this degree worth the money I am paying? Or am I even good enough for this career? Now, if you have asked any of these questions, or let's say all of them, career counseling can be a game changer for you. And let me tell you why. Because it gives clarity amidst confusion. Many students don't know what they want to do, and that's perfectly okay. A career counselor helps you figure out your interests and aptitudes so you can make smarter choices, then it helps you avoid peer pressure. Let's be honest. How many of you thought about engineering or medicine just because everyone else was doing it? So career counseling helps you break free from this herd mentality and choose what's right for you. Then it helps you explore career options. Did you know there are over 12,000 career options available today? A career counselor introduces you to unique fields you may never have heard of, like AI ethics, data journalism, or even environmental psychology. And then it helps you save time and money. Imagine spending years on a degree only to realize it's not what you want. Career counseling prevents such costly mistakes by aligning your education with your goals. And now let's look at the concrete benefits of career counseling in simple terms. Personalized roadmap. No two people are the same. Career counseling creates a customized plan based on your strengths, weaknesses, and aspirations. Then it's a confidence booster. Knowing you're on the right track gives you the confidence to chase your dreams. It eliminates self-doubt and confusion and skill development. A good career counselor also helps you identify and develop skills that are in demand in your chosen field and then global perspective. Thinking of studying abroad or working internationally, career counseling provides insights into global trends, scholarships, and opportunities. And now let's bust a few myths about career counseling. Myth number one, career counseling is only for weak students. The truth is even toppers need guidance to make informed decisions about their future. Then myth number two, my parents know best, I don't need counseling. And the truth is, while parents offer valuable advice, counselors bring professional expertise. Then myth number three, career counseling is expensive. And the truth is, think of it as an investment in your future. Many schools and colleges offer affordable or free career counseling services. And so what does a career counselor actually do? So let me share a breakdown of his services. Assessments. They conduct aptitude, personality, and interest tests to understand your strengths. And they do career mapping. Based on your test results, they suggest career paths and the qualifications you'll need. Then they help you in goal setting, they help you set realistic short-term and long-term goals, and then, of course, guidance on higher studies. They recommend the best colleges, courses, and even financial aid options. So now comes the question that how to choose the right counselor. Because not all career counselors are created equal. Now, here's how to find the right one. Look for someone with certifications and career counseling or experience. Check their experience and track record. Seek recommendations from trusted sources, view their testimonials, ensure they provide personalized guidance instead of generic advice. Now, in today's digital age, career counseling has gone online. Platforms like An Academy, Career Guide, Edu Milestones, Study Abroad Academy offer virtual counseling sessions, making it accessible to students and even the remotest areas. Let me share a quick story because I would definitely love to tell you that how career counseling transforms lives. Ananya was a class 12 student from Delhi, unsure whether to pursue law or journalism. After a career counseling session, she discovered her aptitude for debating and public speaking. Her counsellor guided her towards a career in legal journalism. Today she is a thriving legal correspondent at a top media house. So this could be your story too. So then the question comes that when should you seek career counseling? Okay, after class 10th to choose the right stream. After class 12th to select a degree into college. Then of course you might need it during college to explore specializations and internships. And of course, then finally, as a working professional, to switch careers or upskill. So there is not one stage or it is not a one-time session that you need to go with your career counselor. You might need to stay in touch with your career counselor over the years. Then career counseling isn't just a luxury, it's a necessity in today's fast-paced world. It helps you discover who you are, what you are good at, and how to achieve your dreams. So if you're feeling lost or stuck, don't wait for a miracle. Take the first step and consult a career counsellor. Remember, your future is in your hands, but a little guidance can go a long way in shaping it. And if you have questions, suggestions, or just want to say hello, feel free to reach out. I am here to help and engage in meaningful conversations with you.
