I'm on a mission to coach and mentor 100,000 high school students and help them realize the dream of studying in the best universities of the world and build happy and successful careers for themselves. So today we are going to discuss 10 exciting careers that belong to the PCM stream but apart from engineering. So first is data scientists. Data science is one of the fastest growing fields globally. In India and abroad, companies across sectors such as finance, healthcare, retail, and technology are seeking skilled data scientists to derive actionable insights from large data sets. Now data scientists analyze complex data sets to identify trends, develop predictive models, and aid decision-making processes. They work with various tools and programming languages like Python, R, and SQL. A strong background in maths, statistics, and computer science is essential. A bachelor's degree in these fields, followed by a specialized course or a master's degree in data science, is highly recommended. Now, talking about salary, in India, entry-level data scientists can earn between 6 to 10 lakhs per annum while experienced professionals can make upwards of INR 15 to 25 lakhs. Internationally, salaries range from $70,000 to $120,000 per annum. So isn't it great? Now coming to number two, that is physicists. They are in demand in research institutions, government agencies, and private sectors like aerospace and defense. Internationally, physicists can find opportunities in prestigious organizations such as the NASA, CRN, and various universities. They study the fundamental principles of the universe. Their work involves conducting experiments, analyzing data, and developing theories. They may specialize in areas like quantum physics, astrophysics, or nuclear physics. And as far as the skills or educational qualifications are required, a bachelor's degree in physics is essential, followed by a master's or a PhD for advanced positions. Key skills include analytical thinking, problem solving, mathematical proficiency, and experimental techniques. And coming to the salaries in India, physicists can earn between INR 4 to 12 lakhs per annum. And abroad, salaries can range from $60,000 to $120,000 annually depending on experience and specialization. Number three, statistician. Now they play a vital role in various fields such as government, healthcare, business, sports analytics, and more. In India, the demand for statisticians is growing in research institutions, government agencies, and private companies due to the increasing reliance on data-driven decision making. Globally, there are ample opportunities for statisticians, especially in developed countries like the United States, UK, and Canada, where they contribute significantly to industries like healthcare, finance, technology, and public policy. Now, statisticians are responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting large sets of data to provide actionable insights and help solve real-world problems. Their work involves designing surveys and experiments, applying statistical techniques and presenting findings in a comprehensible manner. Statisticians may work on projects ranging from market research and public health studies to financial risk assessments and quality control in manufacturing. Now, to pursue a career as a statistician, a bachelor's degree in statistics, maths, or a related field is essential. Advanced degrees such as a master's or PhD can further enhance career prospects. Key skills include strong analytical thinking, proficiency in statistical software such as SARS, R or Python, then problem-solving abilities, attention to detail and effective communication skills to convey complex data insights to non-technical stakeholders. And talking about salary, in India, they can expect to earn somewhere around 4 lakhs to 10 lakhs per annum, depending on their experience and the industry they work in. Internationally, salaries for statisticians are higher, ranging from $60,000 to $110,000 annually. In high demand sectors or with advanced qualifications, statisticians can earn even more. Now coming to number four, that is architect. They play an essential role in urban planning, infrastructure development, and designing residential and commercial spaces. In India, the demand for architects is increasing real estate, urban development, and interior design sectors due to rapid urbanization and the need for sustainable living spaces. Internationally, architects are sought after in countries experiencing significant development and urbanization, such as the UAE, Australia, and Canada, where innovative architectural solutions are highly valued. They are responsible for designing buildings and structures that are functional, safe, aesthetically pleasing. Their work involves creating detailed blueprints, collaborating with engineers, construction teams and clients, and overseeing the construction process to ensure the designs are implemented correctly. Architects need to consider various factors such as environmental sustainability, building codes and client requirements to deliver successful projects. And to become an architect, one needs a bachelor's degree in architecture, popularly known as BARC, followed by licensing exams and registration with the Council of Architecture, COA in India. Essential skills for architects include creativity, spatial awareness, technical knowledge, and proficiency in design softwares such as AutoCAD, Revit, and SketchUp. Strong communication and project management skills are also crucial for effectively collaborating with clients and construction teams. And once again, talking about salary, in India, architects can earn between 4 to 12 lakhs per annum depending on their experience and the scale of projects they work. And I'm actually telling a very modest number because through experience you can go much, much higher. Internationally, architects can expect to earn between $60,000 to $120,000 annually with higher earnings possible in regions with high demand for architectural expertise or in prestigious architectural firms. They use mathematics, statistics, and financial theory to analyze the financial cost of risks and uncertainty. Their work involves creating financial models to predict future events and designing strategies to minimize financial risk. And to be an actuary, a bachelor's degree in actual science, mathematics, or statistics is essential. They must also pass a series of professional exams to become certified. Key skills include analytical thinking, problem solving, and proficiency in statistical software. And talking about salaries, in India they can earn between 5 to 15 lakhs per annum. Internationally, salaries can range from $70,000 to $150,000 annually, reflecting their specialized skills. So no wonder it's a great, great field to join.
