A professional who can be described as a modern-day detective armed with advanced analytical tools and techniques. Just as a detective unravels mysteries and uncovers hidden truths, this professional delves into large and complex data sets to uncover valuable insights and patterns that can guide decision making and drive innovation. The work goes beyond analyzing and modeling data. Like a skilled communicator, they translate their findings into a language that non-technical stakeholders can understand. They craft compelling visualizations and narratives that brings the data to life, making it accessible and compelling to decision makers. So I'm sure you would be interested in knowing more about it, as this is currently like the trending career. So today in my special career series, this week it will be data scientist. So please bring in your pen and paper and note down all the knowledge. Till then, I shall wait for you. Hello all. Data scientists often possess a strong background in mathematics, statistics, computer science, and have expertise in programming languages like Python or R. They also have knowledge of data manipulation, database management, big data technologies. Additionally, data scientists should possess critical thinking skills, problem solving abilities, and a curiosity to explore and discover insights from data. Data science is a rapidly evolving field, and data scientists play a crucial role in extracting value from data, driving innovation, and making data-driven decisions in various industries, including finance, healthcare, e-commerce, marketing, and more. Now, data science exists at the intersection of technology and businesses, so it makes sense that higher-level roles may require focusing on one side more than the other. The career path to a data scientist role may involve starting in an entry-level position with the job title data scientist and carrying that title throughout your career with different levels. However, you can also hold a variety of job titles throughout your data scientist career. For instance, you could start your career as a data analyst, progress to a data scientist, and then become a director of data science and eventually a chief information officer. Now there are always ways to specialize through a data science career by focusing on one area, and having this specialization can be a great advantage. Now you typically need at least a bachelor's degree to qualify for entry-level data scientist positions. Most employers look for degrees in analytical or quantitative disciplines like maths, economics, statistics, computer science, information technology or finance. Now, when looking to progress into higher level roles, pursue additional education or certification programs that can enhance your skill and knowledge in data science, such as master's degree in data science or a certification in machine learning. An MBA too can be a great way to boost your resume and help you move into more senior positions. Having an MBA can also give you inroads to focusing on the business side of data science. However, your undergraduate degree can also give you a way to specialize early. Now professional certificates and coding boot camps are excellent options for growing specific skill sets and boosting your data science career. For example, if you have a degree or if your degree is in business, but you want to transition into data engineering roles, taking a boot camp in coding can be a great place to start building those skills. Now the importance of communication and presentation skills, also known as storytelling, cannot be stressed enough. Analyzing data is one thing, but using that data effectively and telling a story with it is another thing and a key skill for data scientists. Now other vital interpersonal and soft skills can include like problem solving, attention to detail, curiosity, or analytical thinking. Now comes the most important part and you'll be waiting for that is the salary. The salary of a data scientist in India can vary depending on several factors, including experience, educational qualifications, skill set, location, industry, and the size of the organization. Now salaries for data scientists in India generally range from entry-level to senior level positions. Now an entry-level data scientist can earn somewhere around 4 lakhs to 8 lakhs. Now this is like having an experience of less than 2 years. But when it comes to experience of 3 to 5 years, they can go on to earn somewhere between 8 lakhs to 15 lakhs because they have gained some expertise in data analysis and they have a better understanding of statistical modeling and machine learning. But when it comes to senior level data scientists, that is like the cream, the people with you know experience of more than five years and strong expertise in data analytics and machine learning. Now their basically salary might range from 15 lakhs to 35 lakhs and even more. And because they can actually take up leadership roles also and be responsible for leading data science teams or driving strategic initiatives. But please keep it in mind that economic conditions, market trends, and other factors do change over time. So it's always recommended to refer to current salary surveys and consult with professionals in the field. Now, if I talk about the US market, now regardless of location, experience, background, so they make a like median annual salary of somewhere around 100,000. And let's say across all levels and industries, and as reported by Glassdoor Show, it's an average estimated salary of $126,000 per year. So that includes bonuses, stock sharing, profit sharing, commission, etc. And cities like San Francisco and Seattle, they may offer higher pay too. It is predicted that the employment of data scientists is expected to grow 36% between 2021 and 2031, which is a significantly faster growth rate than the average across all occupations. And additionally, it's important to remember to learn and explore new and emerging technologies regularly as it's a rapidly evolving field. In summary, a data scientist is a modern-day detective who uses their analytical skills and tools to unlock the hidden treasures within vast amounts of data, providing valuable insights and guiding decision making. And this information is just to guide you on different careers. But I'll still insist on choosing a career in consultation with the career consultant. If you can't find one, connect with me. I shall help you out. And please stay away from your uncles, aunts, and neighbors, for this decision. They look good in family functions only, not while choosing a career.
